Thank you for the courage to take on what’s in front of you.
This was made for a pastor and his family in Fairfield California that was taking the position the pastor who had planted the church. The piece is to encourage and give thanks for accepting the task of pastoring the church. It is a sequel to the “A Righteous Planting” and represents the courage and the greatness to come.
Process
• – I started by wood burning the lions face onto a sheet of wood. I realized the wood I had was the worst type of wood to wood burn into after drawing half of it. The wood was too dense and compacted and took forever to burn.
• – After wood burning, I knew I wanted to make the mane of the lion 3D and give the feel of the previous piece of tree rings.
• – I used all the leftover wood pieces from the “A Righteous Planting” piece and slowly built them up and positioned them like a puzzle until I liked it.
• – Some things I was terrified to do like staining the pieces I had cut and glued because once stained you can’t go back. I knew I had to because it was an either make the piece or break it.
• – Cutting the lion’s profile face out of the wood with a jigsaw was another scary moment. I was afraid it would look cheesy that it made it pop out more.
• – Making this I was mostly unsure of what I was doing but just knew I had to do it.
